“All of us who are openly gay are living and writing the history of our movement. We are no more – and no less – heroic than the suffragists and abolitionists of the 19th century; and the labor organizers, Freedom Riders, Stonewall demonstrators, and environmentalists of the 20th century. We are ordinary people, living our lives, and trying as civil-rights activist Dorothy Cotton said, to ‘fix what ain’t right’ in our society.’” ― Senator Tammy Baldwin

Last Friday, June 29th, marked 50 years since the start of the Stonewall Riots. The demonstrations, which lasted six days, were considered by many to be the start of the gay rights movement in the United States. In the 50 years since that uprising, great strides have been made towards equality for the LGBTQ+ community, but much more work needs to be done. In honor of this milestone anniversary, we invite you to explore and support the organizations shared below – just a few of the numerous organizations across the U.S. that champion equality, support, and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community.

The Williams Institute’s (a division of the UCLA School of Law) LGBT Data & Demographics

GLSEN: “Championing LGBTQ issues in K-12 education since 1990.”

National Center for Transgender Equality
