On this day, August 19th, 100 years ago, Donna Allen was born in Petosky, Michigan. Allen would go on to found the Women’s Institute for Freedom of the Press in 1972 with the goal to “increase communication among women and reach the public with our experience, perspectives, and opinions.” Since 2019 the WIFP has conferred the Women and Media Award to women in the public sphere who have each used their talents and unique perspective on the world to educate and empower women across the country and the world.
