As we spend more time indoors, social distancing, and getting through this time spent #TogetherApart, we can’t think of a better way to fill the time, keep our hands busy, and allow our minds a bit of rest, than making.
2020 is The Year of Color at The School of Making, and we have been exploring new color stories and programming that experiments with unique color pairings.
For our latest Color Palette Bundle, Natalie and The School of Making were inspired by Joseph Albers’ series “Homage to the Square”. Rich fabric hues like Carmine, Peacock, and Plum are paired with neutrals like Dove and White, and today we are debuting these fresh and modern color stories to our DIY Sewing Kits.

You can explore the updated kits on our DIY Sewing Kits page and for an in-depth look at each new colorway option, scroll through the fabric swatch carousel at the bottom of each page. In addition to new kit colorways, The Crop Pant Kit is our newest kit and available in a basic version. Josef Albers: Interaction of Color, Josef Albers: Midnight and Moon, and Josef and Annie Albers: Art is Everywhere are works that accompany our color and design studies.
We hope these new DIY Kit options will offer inspiration and allow the art of making to bring a sense of joy and calm to these chaotic times.
P.S.: You can learn more about Joseph Albers from the Journal, Google Arts & Culture, and the Joseph & Anni Albers Foundation.
