Activist, journalist, and writer Jane Jacobs’ was instrumental in paving the way for urban planning in American cities and grass-roots organizing. Her work and writings focused on urban studies, sociology, and economic theory and often addressed controversial policies. She long advocated for citizens to have a more active role in the planning of urban improvements. Today she would have been 104.
