“But there is another South, the one that we know: a South that is full of people who do things that honor genuinely honorable traditions. Drinking. Cooking. Reading. Writing. Singing. Playing. Making things. It’s also full of people who face our region’s contradictions and are determined to throw our dishonorable traditions out the window.” ― Chuck Reece, Editor of The Bitter Southerner
2020 marks Garden & Gun Magazine’s 11th annual Made in the South Awards. Bringing together makers from across the South, the award highlights small-owned businesses and allows readers a first look at up-and-coming artisans. Garden & Gun has a call for entries until July 1st. We encourage Southern small businesses and makers to apply and showcase your work.
At The Factory, we carry pieces crafted by a handful of our favorite Southern makers. This week we share those companies with you and invite you to explore some of the best the region has to offer.
Follow the hashtag #madeinthesouthawards to explore all of our region’s makers.

With our newest sewing project, the Hope Shirt, you can use any shirt in your closet or make your own shirt from The School of Making with The Shirt Bundle and use a backstitch to customize any garment or project. Our hope is when you pull this shirt from your closet in the years to come that you will be reminded of your life at the moment you stitched these pieces together and of the resiliency of your words.
