“Understanding the physics of the fabric at the structural level is key to our work at Alabama Chanin.” – Natalie Chanin, Alabama Studio Sewing + Design
As much poetry that goes into describing the fit and movement and feel of our fabrics and styles, equally, we must understand the science behind our fabrics. The fabric informs a garment’s design and construction, and ultimately the fit and life of a garment.
Our Collection currently showcases a variety of fabric weights and knits all of which are organic. (More on this and our supply chain next week.)
Today, we introduce a new heavy-weight rib-knit, seen in The Rosa Top, The Willie Top, and The Claudette Skirt. Like our lightweight rib-knit that we use in many of our Core Essential garments—like The Slip Dress, The Tank, The Rib Turtleneck, The Essential Skirt, Natalie’s Pullover, and The Essential Dress and Top—heavyweight rib has a comfortable amount of stretch, but it also has a sturdiness and structure to it. Our design team developed these heavy-weight rib styles with this sturdiness in mind to create silhouettes that complement the material and their fit.
The soft, stretchable quality of both the light and heavy-weight rib-knit, pairs well with the plushness of our waffle fabric—a thermal-style organic knit. Today, we also introduce two new waffle styles: the Mable Waffle Cardigan and the Nina Waffle Vest.
