This weekend we look back at our top Journal stories of 2020; today, we share our favorites from Alabama Chanin. Storytelling helps us learn and connect and build community. Thank you for being a part of ours.

Make One, Buy One, Donate One, Wear One
April 5, 2020

In April, our production and manufacturing operation pivoted to produce face masks during the shortage of PPE early in the COVID-19 pandemic. We were able to supply these high-quality masks to our guests and to regional facilities and organizations under financial strain that may otherwise not be able to afford additional resources. We continue to responsibly produce organic cotton masks alongside our garments at our own Factory in Florence, Alabama. We hope that our efforts make even the smallest of impacts.

Natalie: 20 Years, What I’m Wearing, + Patagonia Restock
January 7, 2020

In January, Natalie remarked on the “adventure that has become Alabama Chanin” and her 20 years of design—which has informed her own personal style. Her preference: a uniform-style wardrobe with hard-working pieces that function well together and play well with seasonal favorites. She’s shared a recent update on what’s she’s loving (and wearing)—including the Reclaimed Down Wrap.

Rosa Parks: 7053 + Protest
August 11, 2020

This summer, we partnered with Birmingham-based shop, basic.—who, like Alabama Chanin, is committed to slow fashion and social responsibility—to create a limited-edition t-shirt inspired by the activism of Rosa Parks. 100% of the profits from this piece were donated to the Equal Justice Initiative to support their work of challenging prevailing narratives about race in America through extensive research, documentation, and educational efforts. While the t-shirt design is no longer available, you can support the Equal Justice Initiative in other ways. And look for more collaborations throughout 2021.

Introducing The New (Spring) Collection
MARCH 10, 2020

Our spring Collection updates paid homage to Natalie’s 20 years of design, and throughout the year, the Collection evolved with that same vision.

“Our approach to Slow Design focuses on producing goods in a socially and environmentally responsible manner, where every action and every material has been thoughtfully considered. The intent is to design clothing that is made from sustainable materials using environmentally sound methods, resulting in beautiful, healthy, and long-lasting garments. We want to create connections with our wearers and for our clothing to be worn for many years – incorporated into the life of a customer.”
