Today, National Nonprofit Day, recognizes the efforts nonprofits and charities put into making an impact in their communities. In 2019, Natalie, CEO and creative director of Alabama Chanin, continued her commitment to textiles and community by founding Project Threadways. Project Threadways is a nonprofit that records, studies, and explores the history of textiles. Through their work, they seek to understand and document the impact that textiles and their creation had on our local community, the region of the American south, the nation, and finally at the global level—connecting the people, places, and materials throughout the process.
Founded as a 501(c)(3), Project Threadways utilizes the experience of our company and Natalie’s vision through academic partnerships and programing with the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area and the University of Mississippi’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture. Whether academic, financial, or creative, Threadways seeks partners to help them further the collection of stories and scholarship to help preserve the past while creating a common future across our region and nation.
