“Depth of craft and beauty coupled with purpose [is Alabama Chanin’s most enduring quality]. There’s so much purpose and thoughtfulness that comes through in the designs. I and a generation of designers and business people were sold on the importance of Design, but it is not enough, it must be coupled with responsibility, and purpose. The work of Alabama Chanin embodies this. It inspires us all to look deeper at beauty and design and that those ideals are only fulfilled if coupled with responsibility, purpose, observation and preservation of the past. — Cathy Bailey, Co-owner and Creative Director of Heath Ceramics
Friday will introduce new entries from the Alabama Chanin 21 Years Celebration. Spanning from 2010 and 2011, this time in the company’s history introduced collaborations with Commune Design and Heath Ceramics along with a feature in the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s National Design Triennial and work with the Southern Foodways Alliance.
This celebration marks Natalie’s legacy in sustainable design and honors our collaborators, team, friends, community, artisans, and those that have inspired Natalie and Alabama Chanin through their work and partnerships over the decades.

October’s Swatch of the Month highlights the Medium Polka Dot Stencil using the Negative Reverse Appliqué technique with the Feather Stitch. The neutral Sand on Sand color palette in 100% organic medium-weight jersey pairs well with projects created from the Studio Bundle #3. Two new kits—The Starter Poncho Kit and Fancy Tiger Top Kit—are inspired by this month’s swatch.
