Natalie has been teaching sewing workshops for over 10 years, and it’s always been a vision of hers to add cooking workshops to the roster. Our educational mission extends beyond the sewing table, and we believe that all of the Living Arts are equally important skills to preserve. In the last few years, we’ve taught workshops on stenciling, dyeing, business, and even biscuit making—with Natalie and Zach sharing their tricks of the biscuit-making trade.
Today, we are introducing another special cooking workshop—combining slow food and education. Join us for a hands-on experience with our café chef, Zach Chanin, as he shares instruction on how to bake bread at home for the upcoming holiday season—using ingredients and tools from your own kitchen. In this two-hour workshop, you will make, bake, and taste: biscuits, yeast rolls, and hoecakes. Chef Zach will also provide instruction to make compound butters to pair with the breads.
Even though guests will make everything from start to finish, some of the dough will be prepared ahead of time for baking. Guests will take home an Alabama Chanin journal with all the recipes learned, a rolling pin, pastry linen, fresh bread, and sweet and savory compound butters.
