Welcome to the new year. In the spirit of the fresh start a new year brings, we present a new Collection and invite you to explore updates to our website.
About the Collection
This past summer on the Journal, we started an artist series that profiled female artists and designers like Frida Kahlo, Louise Nevelson, Clarie McCardell, Sonia Delaunay, and Anni Albers. Each of these women was actively making and designing during the first half of the 20th century and has paved the way for women today who work in these industries. While we explored their work, we also examined their own personal styles.
Frida Kahlo’s way of dress stood out to us, as it is evident in her self-portraits. Her richly embroidered garments were modified versions of traditional Mexican clothing and acted to reflect her feelings about femininity, politics, and her own body.
A series of garments in our new Collection are inspired by the elaborate embroidery from Frida’s dresses. We introduce them alongside favorite designs, like our Rib Dresses and Flora pattern, that carry over into the new Collection.
Explore the Collection here, in a new place on alabamachanin.com (more about that below).
P.S.: We will continue to highlight artist Frida Kahlo on the Journal this month, in a series of posts about her work, style, and cooking. Be sure to check back.
About the Website
As we reimagined select styles for the new Collection, we developed hand and machine sewn techniques that are used in the same garment. Whether machine- or hand-sewn, every garment we produce is artisan made—they are simply created with different forms of craft. So, as our designs evolve to include both machine and hand-sewn, our website updates to reflect those changes. To make our process clearer to our customers, we fold our Collection and Essentials back together into one section on alabamachanin.com.
Under the Alabama Chanin header, you will see options for Collection and Home + Table. The Collection category includes all of our garments and accessories and will live here permanently. You’ll find popular machine-sewn rib garments, core styles, and hand-embroidered pieces here that are meant for everyday wear. Next month, we will introduce a Bridal and Evening Wear section with designs for special occasions.
We welcome these changes that improve navigation on our site and allow you to find what you are looking for with fewer clicks. If you need help navigating our site, give us a call at 256.760.1090 or email orders (at) alabamachanin.com.
