In 2014, we began an incredible partnership with Patagonia repurposing down jackets into one-of-a-kind scarves. The Reclaimed Down Scarf was developed as a solution for the jacket’s end-of-life problem—where does it go now? Patagonia’s Worn Wear Program allows you to trade in fully functioning Patagonia clothing and receive a credit. The down jackets that are being repurposed are a part of that program. By creating a new product, we are preventing them from going into landfills.
Our brands approached product development in a thoughtful way—with Cradle-to-Cradle design and manufacturing in mind. With C2C, the goal is for every product to reflect sustainability from the beginning of life as a raw material, through design, manufacturing, active life, and end-of-life processes. Garments that have reached the end of their lives become an active part of the environment through composting or upcycling into a new form—like our Reclaimed Down Scarf.
The reclaimed scarves are created by our Bldg. 14 team and our artisans. Each scarf is truly one-of-a-kind and is made by deconstructing the jackets and resewing the material. Our organic cotton jersey is used to finish the edges and provide a soft (and sustainable) accent on the scarves.
We are proud to announce that, for the first time, the Reclaimed Down Scarf is available on AlabamaChanin.com and in-store at The Factory. Find it from us and in select Patagonia stores this holiday season.
