The Striped Swing Skirt DIY Kit is now available and makes the perfect project to work on while watching all three classes from Natalie and The School of Making on Craftsy. This project uses techniques covered in Creative Embellishments as well as stitches from The New Embroidery and construction from The Swing Skirt: Techniques & Construction—and it can be as simple or challenging as you decide to make it.
To give the appearance of a seamless stripe pattern around the hem of the skirt, we’ve modified the Variegated Stripe stencil to follow the curved hemline of the 24” Swing Skirt. The Curved Variegated Stripe stencil is available as a downloadable PDF that you can print and cut at home.
The Striped Swing Skirt DIY Kit is shown here in Blue Slate/White and is available in four colorways. The skirt is a single layer with placement reverse appliqué making it a breezy, lightweight skirt for summer. The kit comes with enough thread to complete reverse appliqué and construction with the option to add on the Embroidery Sampler if you wish to achieve the same look as the skirt shown here.
This kit gives you the opportunity to practice intricate embroidery stitches around the hem of the skirt making it a great wearable piece that shows off your skills. Purchase the kit here, and view our virtual learning series here.
